Snow Bike Festival is back!

Carved into the back of the goalpost I tended on the homefield of my varsity field hockey team back in high school was a wise offering: “The only way to beat temptation is to yield to it.” This is what comes to mind when I look out my window to the gray, snowy Pittsburgh I inhabit and then click on a link encouraging me to sign up for a Snow Bike Festival in the Swiss Alps. Oh, you’re cold and cranky at 26°? Maybe you should go to Switzerland. Unfortunately, that feeling was only doubled down upon when I checked the weather in Gstaad, where the race occurs: currently 40° and tomorrow will be 50°. So maybe it would be a pretty tropical vacation after all.

Still, if you want to try your luck at a bike race that may or may not be snowier than your hometown, check out Snow Bike Festival. It’s the world’s first UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) race on snow, and promises to bring out both the pros and amateurs to play in the snow (if it can manage to get cold in time). The event takes place in late January, so there’s still plenty of time.
