Ibis releases Ripmo long travel 29er

Ibis just launched the Ripmo, a long travel 29er mashup of the brand’s Ripley and Mojo models. The Ripmo aims to combine “the Ripley’s balance and speed with the Mojo HD4’s capabilities when things get hairy.”

The Ripmo features a 160 mm fork with 145 mm of rear travel provided with either a Fox DPX2 or X2 shock and dw-link. The carbon frame weighs in at under 6 pounds with the rear shock and will fit up to a 29 x 2.6 inch tire.

Ibis took a new look at its geometry for this bike, lengthening the reach by nearly an inch over the Mojo HD4 and allowing clearance for a 175 mm dropper on a size medium (and riders with longer inseams easily can get away with a 185 or 200 mm). The 76 degree seat tube angle puts the rider’s weight more over the front of the bike, livening up the handling and making it more pedal-friendly without sacrificing the confidence-inspiring slack front end. The fork offset is also shorter than what is traditionally used on this genre of bike, boosting cornering ability in the tight stuff while maintaining the stability of a slack head angle and without increasing the wheelbase.

Geometry:

A neat feature of the Ripmo frame is internal cable tunnels. Just stick the cable end through and it pops out the other end, eliminating the biggest PIA part of internal cable routing. The frame also features a threaded BB and a redesigned lower link that is lighter and stiffer than previous Ibis models.
