There are all sorts of interesting bicycle-related apps for your favorite Apple-built handheld device, but there have been surprisingly few bicycle games…especially mountain bike-themed games. But that’s about to change.

Apposing, an iPhone applications and smart phone development company out of Liverpool, England, is set to release an iPhone/iPod/iPad game called, “Steve Peat – Downhill Mountain Biking.” As the name implies, the game stars mountain bike champion and legend Steve Peat. “Being the first app of its kind, ‘Steve Peat – Downhill Mountain Biking’ takes full advantage of Apple’s technology by providing players with unique interactivity capturing the fast and frantic game-play derived from this extreme sport,” said David Brown, managing Director of Apposing.

We haven’t seen any demos or even screenshots yet, but the game is said to promise all kinds of fun:

  • Other real-life professional riders will be added to the game over time
  • The game will include a soundtrack featuring a wide range of music
  • You get to ride the virtual version of real courses from all over the world

The game will be dynamic in that Apposing will continually release updates to the game, which will include more professional rider characters, more courses and new features. Players will also be able to purchase upgrades for their bikes, kits and more through a virtual 3D bike shop built right into the game.

The release of “Steve Peat – Downhill Mountain Biking” is set to coincide with the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup event at Fort William, Scotland on 5-6 June, 2010. We’ll keep you posted, but you might also want to keep an eye on the iTunes store and the Apposing web site (http://www.apposing.co.uk) for more info!
