IMBA Introduces Gateway Trails
Originally posted on December 9, 2008 at 5:18 amThe International Mountain Bicycling Association’s (IMBA) Gateway Trails initiative is a new model for community-based mountain bike trails. IMBA will apply its decades of accumulated trailbuilding expertise and leverage its extensive club network to bring mountain biking recreation closer to millions of potential riders by developing trail systems in urban and suburban settings.
Gateway Trails can be built in small parks—next to greenways, playgrounds and ball-fields—to enhance the recreational opportunities of communities. Gateway Trails introduce novice riders mountain biking in a non-threatening setting that allows riders to develop fitness and build self-esteem. By incorporating family-style natural surface trails, bike skills areas and proper signage, Gateway Trails stimulate a new generation of bicyclists and outdoor enthusiasts.
More information on Gateway Trails is available on the IMBA website. Contact IMBA Trail Solutions to learn about the possibilities for adding a Gateway Trail to your community. Program Director Scott Linnenburger can be reached via [email protected], or 303.545.9011 ext. 117.
