Day five of the Kokanee Crankworx in Whistler BC is Dirt Rag’s first for the 2008 event. Most of the day has been spent on two planes and a bus, a small price to pay to be here.

As far as the day’s competitions go, I was only able to see the final runs of the Jim Beam Air DH Pro Division. Here is a shot of the winner, Brian Lopes, pedaling off the final drop of the course. He is riding a 5.5 inch travel Ibis.

Brian Lopes’ winning time of 04:22.10 was closely followed by Greg Minnaar’s 04:23.42. Third place goes to the locals with Chris Kovarik , of Vancouver, cranking out a run at 04:27.60.

Because the crowd is pumped after watching all the high energy riding, there is more entertainment in the form of music. The first band on the main stage is the harmonic, Vancouver based, Mother Mother. Their dynamic vocals mixed with the up-beat rhythms was clearly broadcast over the entire expo area. The final band for the night was a trio from Montreal, Plants And Animals. The band has a very unique earthy sound, blending various musicals styles into their own flavor of music. Both bands can be found on Myspace, and all race results on crankworx.com.
