Authorities in Austin, Texas are considering a law to require all cyclists to wear helmets. Not convinced by common sense, they undertook a year long study at a local hospital.

Their findings? A significant number of head injuries can be prevented by wearing a helmet.

Of course, this doesn’t necessarily take into account the findings of Dr. Ian Walker who learned last year that wearing a helmet actually causes cars to crowd cyclists. (He was hit twice during the study — both times wearing a lid.) He also found that wearing a wig increased the clearance of passing vehicles.

Just sayin’. As long as we’re citing studies to prove a point…
