Philly Bike Expo: Schön Studio

We are closing in on the end of our collection of mountain bikes from this year’s Philly Bike Expo. Our sport has been on a pretty serious growth spurt these last few years and the frame builders are reciprocating with a bunch of interesting and beautiful bikes.

Danielle Schön of Shön Studio recently moved from the Toronto area to the other side of Canada, the mountain bike Mecca that is Squamish, British Columbia. Her show bike this year was a hardtail she designed and built for herself to start tackling the trails of her new home. A naked steel frame with some of Schön’s trademark flair and metalwork integrated into the frame. The geometry is a modern design following the trend of longer and slacker with the ability to run 150mm of travel on the fork.

As a hardtail meant to pilot the wild and steep trails of Squamish B.C., Schön opted for the “mullet” set up on this build with a 27.5 in the back and 29er in the front. A trend that has been creeping back into the Enduro and Downhill world. I don’t know about you all but I immediately think of that Travis Brown Trek with the Maverick fork, the 69er when I see a “mullet” bike.

I always enjoy checking out Danielle Schön’s work. Schön lets all of her influences shine in her bike builds and isn’t afraid to push the aesthetic boundaries and her latest build is no different.
