2019 Salsa Cycles Mountain Bike Launch
Originally posted on March 1, 2019 at 11:01 amSalsa has an all-new line up for 2019 featuring their Split Pivot design. We got a sneak peek of the bikes at Frost Bike last week and they look just as good in person as they do on the screen. With three all-new models, Salsa is covering the disciplines from cross-country rocket to big trail ripper.
Salsa’s new mountain bikes come with plenty of improvements over previous model years— shorter chainstays, more travel, refined geometry, flip chips for adjusting headtube angle and bottom bracket height, and dropper posts on every model. They have also tuned the Split Pivot suspension system’s leverage rate to offer a more progressive ramp feel in the final third of the stroke. According to Salsa, this provides more confidence when the suspension is pushed hard in rough terrain.
The Spearfish
What do we like about the Spearfish? For starters, it comes with two, that’s right, TWO bottle mounts on the main triangle. Based around 100mm of Split Pivot suspension and a 120mm fork, it’s the go-to bike for fast and fun weeknight trail rides or peak efficiency in endurance and XC efforts.
While coming equipped with 29×2.3″ tires the Spearfish will also fit a 27.5X 2.8-3.0 for those days you want a little more rumble.
The Horsethief
The Horsethief is Salsa’s 29″ all-around trail bike. Featuring 120mm of Split Pivot rear suspension and a 140mm fork, it’s inspired by open-ended rides that could lead anywhere—perhaps even to a post-ride beverage with a scenic view. Guess what? This one also has two bottle cage mounts where it counts and features a 157mm Super Boost rear drop out.
A fine looking all-terrain machine, hopefully, we can get our hands on one of these to see how it goes when it goes.
The Rustler
The Rustler is Salsa’s 27.5″ playful trail bike. With 130mm of Split Pivot suspension travel out back and a 150mm fork. While the Rustler only has one bottle mount we are fairly certain that it makes up what it lacks in water carrying abilities with shredabilities! The Rustler is strictly a 27.5 bike but will also clear up to a 2.8″ tire if one so desires.
