Dirt Verse: a Dirt Fest WV recap in poem form

Originally posted on July 20, 2018 at 0:18 am

We are still reeling from the festivities at Dirt Fest West Virginia. If you made it out to ride and party with us, then you might be having a hard time processing the all the group rides, demo bikes, skill sessions, great food, awesome music and movie, and, of course, the totally radical trails at Big Bear Lake. The sharp rocks, big drops, pine forest, chasms and lakes all made for a truly epic way to spend the weekend, made all the better with the camaraderie of our Dirt Rag readers, friends, and volunteers. While we try to gather ourselves and shake the leaves from our hair, our freelancer Colleen O’Neil wrote us a poem to accompany the photos she took of the event. Stay tuned for more words and photos of the event from our Lead Photographer, Brett.

Dirt Fest West Virginia

by Colleen O’Neil

It’s a weekend of sunshine, coffee and beer.
Grab your helmet and gloves, ‘cause Dirt Fest is here.

Got some bike envy? We’ve got it too.
Toss old whips aside and try something new.

Big Bear’s got rocks and roots, ferns and berms.
Hey! Buy a pass, and ride here long-term!

If riding your own, and you break a spoke,
Pathfinder’s here to keep up the stoke.

Newbie rider? Please don’t be scared.
Take Aim Cycling will get you all squared.

With skills rides and clinics and high-fives galore,
You’ll come back around – asking for more.

Are two wheels old hat? Give a uni a whirl.
Dave Krack brought a bunch, they’re fun for a twirl.

NICA brought kids! They’re learning to race.
(See them on the trails? Just leave some space.)

Try yoga each morning and salute the sun.
Stretch out those muscles, tight from the fun.

Girls are here too! We’ll do lots of rides –
Together in pink (or not), ripping rocks with great pride.

There’s music and dancing and fun stuff all day
But quiet at ten, when we hit the hay.

Ride all day long, sunup to sundown.
When Sunday is over, just try not to frown.

Dirt Fest will come back! Next year and next.
