Sea Otter 2018: Alex Rims Recon 3.0

Alex Rims is entering the world of carbon trail wheels with the Recon 3.0. Boasted to be able to take the same abuse as an aluminum wheel and rumored to cost somewhere in the $1200 range, the Recon 3.0 could be a budget conscious carbon nut’s dream come true.

The Recon 3.0 has the ability to run a quick release or through axle and comes spaced at 110 mm in the front and 148 mm in the rear. They are offered in both 29 inch and 650 wheel sizes and are tubeless ready and shipped with tape and valves. Offering a 30 mm wide rim profile and using Alex Rims’ in-house hubs, the Bear Paw, the Recon 3.0 wheelset weighs in at 1706 g for the 29er and 1604 g for the 27.5 inch wheel size.
