Review: Lezyne Port-A-Shop Pro Tool Kit

Lezyne, now in its 10^th year of existence, has branched out well beyond making just pumps and minitools. Its product portfolio now also includes LED lights, GPS units and heart rate monitor straps mixed in among multitools, minipumps, floor pumps and digital floor pumps. On the tool side the company now makes high quality shop tools. Within that is the new $300 Port-a-Shop Pro, a portable, professional-grade kit.

The composite hard shell case includes 15 basic tools (not including each individual 1.5 – 10 mm Allens and eight sizes of Torx) and five “Smart Kits” which are tube patch sleeves. What makes this kit stand out is the quality and attention to detail. The tools are CNC machined aluminum and the bigger ones have varnished wood handles. The three-way Allens and Torx along with the Torx Block and additional, separate Allens also have a chrome vanadium anti-corrosion finish so they stay shiny and new looking. The large CNC Rod Handle attaches to the dual external BB/cassette lock ring tool and the dual ISIS splined BB/8-point BB tool to provide leverage (and it’s much more elegant than using a rusty, oily adjustable wrench).

Simply put, these tools work as well as they look. They feel great in the hands, have stellar designs and attention to detail, and do what they are supposed to do. Additionally, the wood handled Pedal Rod and Chain Rod have a serviceable body, so you can swap out damaged bits or handles (or even switch from wood to CNC machined aluminum if you have a style change of mind). The 3-ways have the same feature, so if you strip or break a bit you can replace it independently without needing to get a whole new tool.

While this kit isn’t a comprehensive, all-you’ll-ever-need collection of tools, it is an excellent assortment of must-have basics you’ll always use in an easily portable case at a fair price. And, with the holiday season upon us what home mechanic wouldn’t want to see this beauty under their tree?
