Continental delivers Baron tire with Protection Apex casing
Originally posted on May 2, 2016 at 8:08 amContinental tires announced at the Sea Otter Classic that its Baron tire, commonly seen on Dan Atherton’s race bike, is in production and available. The tread pattern is an adaption of mud tire lugging meaning it has much wider knob spacing than what’s traditionally found on all-arounder gravity and enduro tires. The knobs are ramped and won’t squirm or have a “heavy” rolling feel that most mud tires do.
Protection Apex casing is a urethane insert that runs two-thirds up the sidewall, starting at the bead for extra reinforcement. Additionally, the tire can be run at very low air pressure because the urethane helps absorb impact on big hits. Expect to see this feature on more tires from the brand.
Available in 26 (900 grams), 27.5 (950 grams) and 29 (1020 grams) in 2.4” width only, retail price is $86.
