An all-mountain hardtail with 120 mm – 140 mm of suspension, Boost spacing, 27plus tires and a titanium frame is not unique in and of itself. But Steve Domahidy, one of the co-founders of Niner Bikes, struck out on his own a few years ago and has never been content to just make normal bikes. Through his company Domahidy Designs, he has launched an all-mountain titanium hardtail with a 12-speed Pinion P1.12 gearbox and a Gates Carbon Drive Belt System. Domahidy calls this a “play bike” and a “go-anywhere hardtail.” The motto is #riderinseandrepeat.

The bike is designed to be fun and nearly maintenance-free with the enclosed gearbox. The Pinion is completely sealed from the elements and only requires a fluid change once every 6,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. The 30.9 mm seat tube offers internal cable routing for a dropper post.

The bikes comes in sizes small, medium and large. The medium-sized frame, without the gearbox, is a claimed 4.25 pounds. The gearbox adds 1.75 pounds and is claimed to be more evenly spaced and have a wider range than the an 11-speed cassette.

If you pre-order the $5000 kit (frame, gearbox, belt drive with sprockets), you will receive a complimentary set of Industry Nine Back Country 27.5plus or 29-inch wheels worth $1000. Expect mid-summer delivery.
