Inside Line: New Super 2R helmet from Bell with removable chin guard

While the recent influx of extended coverage helmet designs has brought better protection—and looks—to market for trail riders, there still exists a huge gap between their open-face coverage and a big downhill full-face helmet. Especially now that enduro racing and all-mountain riders are pushing harder than ever before, riders are looking for a little extra security on the descents, but a lot more comfort on the climbs.

Bell has answered the call with the new Super 2R, an extension of the popular Super helmet, the Super 2R adds an additional, removable chin bar for added protection when you need it. Many enduro race events now require a full-face helmet on the timed stages, but that means you have to lug an extra helmet around all day if you want to wear a half-shell on the transfers. The new helmet solves that problem, and Bell rider Matthew Slaven has been racing his through much of the summer.

Most of the features that make the Super so great are still present, including the overbrow ventilation and the hugely adjustable visor that pivots up and out of the way to play nice with goggles. The Super 2R also has an improved, breakaway GoPro mount design.

The chin bar will only be compatible with the Super 2R and the Super 2, which is an updated version of the original Super. It uses buckles inspired by ski boots and has adjustable cheek pads.

The Super 2R will be available in five colors, three of which will be available with the MIPS protection system, and all of which will come equipped with the ICEdot emergency identification and notification system. It will retail for $200 and be available in November.

 

Full Flex and Reflex

Bell also announced the introduction of the Full Flex and Reflex helmets for the skate, slopestyle, park and BMX crowd.

The Full Flex, above, borrows styling cues from the classic Bell Custom 500 motorcycle helmet, but with an EPP foam liner that can compress and then rebound on impact that can better protect from multiple hits. It also has stainless steel mesh vents, machined rivets, synthetic leather cheek pads and pockets for the Sountrax speaker system. It also comes with the ICEdot emergency system.

Both helmets also use Bell’s FormFit shaping, which comprises of a series of segmented foam pieces that allow the helmet to conform to the shape of the rider’s head, reducing hot spots and gaps that can limit comfort and performance. They are also available in three sizes for a perfect fit.

Both will be available in December. The Full Flex will be available in matte black or white for $100 and the Reflex in five different colors at $65.
