Final stop of the Scott Enduro Cup coming to Canyons Resort in Utah
Originally posted on July 10, 2014 at 18:17 pmThe Scott Enduro Cup presented by GoPro mountain bike race series heads to Canyons Resort in Park City, Utah on July 19 for its final stop of the season. After competition stops in Moab and Sun Valley, the pressure is on athletes to earn North American Enduro Tour (NAET) points and also to become the 2014 Scott Enduro Cup presented by GoPro champions. The event attracts top names in mountain biking including current NAET point leaders Kyle Warner and Margaret Gregory. Registration is still open for men and women, open, amateur, and junior riders at endurocupmtb.com.
“Canyons Resort is the crown jewel of the Scott Enduro Cup presented by GoPro series and the birthplace of enduro in Utah. After racing in Moab and Sun Valley, it seems fitting that our series will end in the mountain bike Mecca of Park City,” said Ali Goulet, Enduro Cup founder and competition director. “The additions and edits we’ve made to the course will make Canyons the most challenging and rewarding of our series. Steep, technical, fast trails and bike park flow will require every ounce of a riders’ skill.”
Enduro racing uses a rally-style format with timed descents during competition stages linked together by climbing transfer stages, which are not factored into the overall time. The course at Canyons Resort will pit cardio and strength against nerve and skill. Racers will tackle approximately 17.2 miles of rowdy and sometimes rooty trails over 3,200 vertical descending feet through sharp switchbacks and multiple technical descents. The course will feature additional stages to last year’s route with the inclusion of Canyons Bike Park. Park City, Utah, is the world’s first and only International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Gold-Level Ride Center accredited for its jaw-dropping natural beauty, diverse riding opportunities, and successful local mountain bike community.
The race starts and finishes at Canyons Resort Village making it easy for friends and fans to cheer for racers and participate in the action. Both spectators and athletes can also view live timing results throughout the race on ItsYourRace.com and the ItsYourRace App. Following the Enduro Cup awards will be Canyons’ Summer Concert Series featuring a soul-infused rock and roll band, Trigger Hippy. Music starts at 6 p.m and is free and open to the public. Canyons Resort is also offering attendees of the 2014 Scott Enduro Cup presented by GoPro special lodging rates. More information on available lodging and reservations is available online here.
“Canyons is thrilled to host the final stop of this tour for the third year in a row,” said Steve Duke, Canyons Bike Park Manager. “We’re excited to have elite riders from all over the world experiencing our trails here at Canyons. The crew has laid out stages with a wide variety of trails for the course, which includes a Canyons Bike Park trail and singletrack descents. It’s sure to push the riders’ abilities and fitness throughout the day.”
The Open category podium winners will receive $2,500 total in prize money divided evenly between men and women. The top three riders in each Amateur category will receive gear from sponsors. Riders and spectators also have the chance to enter a raffle benefitting the Mountain Trails Foundation of Park City, Utah.
