The Champagne Powder has melted, revealing pristine trails, winding pavement and scenic gravel roads. A summer playground for cyclists of all kinds has emerged, and a celebration is in order to welcome beginning of bike season.
The cycling season officially kicks off in Steamboat June 9 to 15 with the second annual Steamboat Bike Week. Whether you’re a freeride fanatic or a skinny tire aficionado, Bike Week has something for everyone, and evening entertainment and events will bring the entire cycling community together to reflect on the day over a cold beer.
“Bike Week is a great opportunity to start of the biking season right with group rides, clinics and bike-themed entertainment,” said David Scully, president of the Bike Town USA board. “There’s no better place to start your season than in Bike Town USA.”
Bike Week begins with the June 9 arrival of Ride the Rockies, a statewide tour that will bring 2,000 riders to Steamboat Springs for two nights.
While the riders are in town, entertainment will be offered at Steamboat Ski Area and in downtown Steamboat, where the 5Point Film Festival will showcase inspiring outdoor adventure short films on the big screen at Tuesday’s bike-in movie.
Each day, group rides and clinics offer the chance to meet fellow cyclists and enjoy a day in the Colorado sun, while Moots and Kent Eriksen Cycles will be offering tours of their titanium bike factories.
On Thursday the Steamboat Bike Park opens for lift-served biking, with proceeds from passes going toward local IMBA Chapter Routt County Riders.
Downhill, cross country and road ride options fill the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, the base of Steamboat Ski Area will come to life with tantalizing aromas and a festival atmosphere for Savor Steamboat, offering a taste of local culinary delights and unique libations. On Sunday morning, stretch out and unwind morning’s outdoor Yoga for Cyclists class.
