Review: Club Ride Roxbury jersey and Pin’It shorts

Club Ride has made a name for itself in the cycling industry for offering high-performance apparel with a unique style. From the trail head to the pub, the Roxbury jersey and Pin’It shorts are great options if you want to stand apart by blending in.

Club Ride Roxbury jersey

The Roxbury Jersey maintains the casual style of Club Ride with an improvement over previous models as well. Instead of having a zipper and snaps, the Roxbury just has snaps. I never used the zipper on my other Club Ride shirts and its absence makes the front of the shirt feel lighter. It also doesn’t sag from the zipper’s weight when wet, and the front snaps look better anyway.

I like the relaxed cut, it fits loosely, not baggy and the fabric is stretchy. Epaulets add a touch of class, and despite my initial concerns that they would create pressure points under my hydration pack’s shoulder straps, I didn’t feel them at all.

The vented underarms help with airflow, and the fabric dries quickly when standing around for trail talk. A small, rear zippered pocket, with reflective accents, is phone sized for city riding and has a media port for rolling with tunes.

I really enjoy the freedom of movement from the Roxbury and like that I can blend in at a café or pub post trail ride. $90 is a fair price for a ride and go anywhere technical fabric shirt with cool styling. It’s available in 2 colors, Charcoal or Reo, in size small-XL.

Club Ride Pin’It shorts

Club Ride Pin’It Shorts have a casual pinstripe pattern and a slim fit. The synthetic fabric is breathable and somewhat stretchy to allow movement with the pedaling motion. I like the 13” inseam, placing the length right at my knees. The leg opening is pretty narrow and the shorts creep up my thigh a little, which is fine, but stick to my skin instead of falling with gravity when I stand. The seamless crotch gusset is cut perfectly and doesn’t become snagged by the saddle, and the back of the waistband is taller than the front to eliminate crack exposure.

Internal buttons adjust the waist an inch-and-half on either side and belt loops are included. The buttons created a good fit for my size 33” waist, but I still need to wear a belt. When doing so, or when fastening the waist strap on my hydration pack, the buttons rubbed against my hipbones. Unlike my two older pairs of Club Ride shorts that are size medium, I needed a size large in the Pin’It, so try’em on if you’re able.

Reflective details, side entry front pockets, and a rear pocket make the shorts commuter friendly. I’d like to see the rear pocket be deeper and have a button to better secure my wallet. Minor nits in an otherwise comfortable, functional, and stylish garment that worth the $80 asking price. A liner short is not included. Available in size small-XL.
