Steamboat Springs, Colo., residents vote to spend on trails

Voters in Steamboat Springs, Colo., overwhelming approved a new measure that will allocate a tax on lodging to building more trails and a new downtown riverfront promenade. Ballot Measure 2A was approved by 71 percent of the city’s voters, according to Steamboat Today.

The Steamboat Springs City Council will have the ultimate authority over the funds generated by a one percent tax on lodging guests. The money will go towards projects like the Yampa River Core Trail and projects on Emerald Mountain. The Steamboat Springs Trail Alliance also outlined potential 46 trail projects totally more than 130 miles of trails.

The Yampa River Promenade will be a city-owned, continuously-landscaped promenade along the river side of Yampa Street connecting public parks and allowing permanent river access. It is expected to be complete in the fall of 2015.

Steamboat Springs, which bills iteself as “Bike Town USA” is a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community and Colorado’s only IMBA Ride Center, as well as the home to brands like Moots, Eriksen Cycles, Big Agnes, and more.
