Video: Trans-Savoie recap and 2014 preview

Trans-Savoie might be the most challenging, diverse and scenic mountain bike race in the world as it travels 300km over six days in the French Alps.

A point-to-point enduro, the rider with the least cumulative time over the timed stages is the winner. The timed runs are technically downhill singletrack, while the transfers are singletrack, doubletrack or even mechanical lifts.

While the descending clocks in an insane 25,000 meters, there is an equal amount of climbing, but luckily only 6,000 meters or so is self-propelled.

The mobile basecamp is transferred for you each day to rustic campsites each in a picturesque alpine setting. Competitors are provided with an individual tent and camping mattress, and catering is included.

Want to get in on the action for the 2014 edition, August 24-31? Better be ready when registration opens Thursday, October 31. Last year it sold out in 30 seconds.
