Dirt Rag is headed to the Inca Avalance

Based in Ollantaytambo, Peru, just around the corner from Machu Picchu, starting at nearly 16,000 feet altitude, the Inca Avalanche, protected by Bell Helmets, motion by Kenda Tires, holds the title as the second highest race in the world. Now in its 6th running, the Inca Avalanche is set to host more than 13 nations during the two day event June 1 and 2, 2013.
The Inca Avalanche is a mass start enduro downhill mountain bike race, not broken into different stages but rather one continuous run. Each run descends about 5,900 vertical feet over 25 minutes or less depending on the riders level of shred. Racer will see the course three times over the weekend, one qualifying run on Saturday and a two runs on Sunday. Consistency will be a factor as Sunday features combined run scores to reach the podium.
Each year racers from all over the globe descend on Ollantaytambo to take in the local trails, Choquekillka festival, Inca ruins and the race. Chris Van Dine, Rene Wildhaber, Brian Lopes, Cedric Gracia and many other legends of the sport have come to Ollantaytambo to rip this ride but you don’t have to be an Elite to have fun in this race, the Inca Avalanche has racers as young as 9 and even a hard tail category.
