Kona readying new production fat bike
Originally posted on March 11, 2013 at 12:30 pmWord on the street (or at least the fat bike forums) is that Kona will be the next major brand to introduce a production fat bike, and we’ve got the spec sheet.
Never afraid to push into unique market segments, Kona has a long tradition of niche designs such as the long-tail Ute cargo bike and the specially-designed Africabike. Now as fat bikes continue rolling from the margins of the market to becoming a mainstream model, I’m not too surprised to see Kona getting on board.
The bike will be called the Wo, a reference to Hawaii Five-O villan Wo Fat, the master Chinese spy and super criminal. The frame is 6061 aluminum, mated to a fat-sized version of the classic Kona P2 steel fork. Build details include Shimano shifters and derailleurs, an FSA crankset, Tektro mechanical disc brakes, and Joytech hubs spaced 135mm front and 170mm rear. The stock tires will be Vee Rubber’s Mission 26×4.0.
