Mavic and Time join forces to co-develop road, mountain pedals

Two French brands, Time and Mavic, have signed an agreement for technical collaboration to design and manufacture clipless pedals together in France.
Time’s current and successful pedal technology includes ICLIC for the road, ATAC for the dirt and a patented pre-opening “automatic” engagement on its high-end pavement offerings. Mavic began making clipless pedals in the 90s with the 646 LMS and in 2008 released the 220 grams per pair Race SL Ti, though these never fully caught on with the general riding public and Mavic ceased selling pedals last year.
In a statment, Time President Roland Cattin said “Such a strategic alliance allows the two brands, whilst remaining independent to share their experience and join forces to explore new technological opportunities with the objective of developing products of the highest quality.”
Currently, the partnership is limited to pedals with the sharing and developing of technology, as well as making pedals in France. No specific plans have been revealed.
Mavic’s ultra light (and expensive), titanium road pedal was discontinued last year.
Time’s popular ATAC XC carbon/ti mountain bike pedals, left, weigh in at a mere 241 grams per pair, while the ICLIC road pedals are even lighter, at a claimed 175 grams per pair.
