Registration is open for 10th Whiskey Off-Road
Originally posted on January 8, 2013 at 11:59 amAmateur registration for the Whiskey Off-Road endurance mountain bike event opened January 1. Much like Geoff Kabush’s arrival to the finish line in 2012, registration has been rolling in at record pace. With an amateur field limit of 1,850 registrants, Epic Rides suspects the event will reach capacity faster than ever before.
The Whiskey Off-Road will celebrate its tenth annual edition April 26-28 in Prescott, Arizona. Since its humble beginnings of 200 participants in the back alley of High Gear Bike Shop, the event has grown to become a top five sporting event in Prescott and one of the most significant cash purse opportunities in the history of pro mountain biking worldwide.
Registration and complete event information can be found here.
With the signature event hub now located in the heart of downtown on Whiskey Row, and the City of Prescott closing the town square off to bicycle traffic only, for 2013 the decade-old event makes a few start line changes intended to relieve bottlenecking issues and make for a smoother more enjoyable amateur rider experience.
In addition to Prescott National Forests’ vast trail selection, the “Whiskey” offers riders and their friends and family a three-day festival atmosphere, bustling industry expo, free live music, two stages of pro racing with $35,000 equal payout cash purse, and additional activities all weekend for the entire family.
Amateur athletes and kids will enjoy their choice of graduated distance options including 15 Proof, 25 Proof or 50 Proof and 2 Proof or 5 Proof kids courses (1 proof = 1 mile).
All participants who toe the start line during the three days of riding in the Prescott National Forest will have the opportunity to earn a custom finisher pint glass just for completing the distance they registered to ride within the allotted time – not an easy task. Those who complete their course fast enough to finish in the top five will receive a custom Whiskey Off-Road flask. For the junior categories, podium finishers will receive custom Whiskey Off-Road stainless steel water bottles. All categories will receive product from industry sponsors in addition to the customized awards.
All participants who register for the Whiskey Off-Road on or before March 25 will receive an event goodie bag valued at a minimum of $75, including T-shirt, water bottle, poster and event publication plus assorted samples from event sponsors. The registration fee is $100 plus a $10 minimum donation to be shared between the Yavapai County Food Bank, Prevent Child Abuse Arizona, Arizona High School Mountain Biking/NICA and other causes endemic to the bike industry.
