Balmy temperatures and threatening skies greeted riders from all over the country at Beech Mountain Resort yesterday for the opening day of this year’s Gravity National Championships.

This is the second year Beech Mountain has hosted Gravity Nationals, and the course seems to have matured for this second outing. Overall, conditions were good for yesterday’s practice session; though last night’s rain will certainly make things interesting for the Cat 2 and Cat 3 races today.

Yesterday’s festivities opened with an opportunity to walk the Pro course, so we thought we’d share our initial impressions. I’m thoroughly impressed with the venue, and most racers I’ve spoken with seem to thoroughly enjoy this short-but-demanding course. Weather depending, race times may well be in the low two minute range for the tops riders.

Here’s a quick course walk video. Look for more reports from Gravity Nationals in the coming days.
