San Juan Huts 200 turns a tour into a stage race
Originally posted on April 13, 2012 at 15:19 pmWhat if you could take an already epic seven-day mountain bike tour from Durango to Moab and turn it into a mountain bike stage race, complete with meals, timing, racer swag, support, and memories of epic proportions? Well now you can. Introducing the San Juan Huts 200!
June 24 – June 30th: Seven-Day supported stage race from Durango to Moab. (6 nights, 7 days staying overnight in tents using the San Juan Huts southern route and hut system for community camp area). Finish to a celebration party in Moab, UT.
“Colorado’s Durango to Moab Hut to Hut route is an epic tour with nothing short of epic views. Comprised of mostly back country forest service roads with plenty of single track options, the route will challenge all levels of riders while still being supremely enjoyable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness. When riding it as a family last year, we took lots of memorable video and have an experience none of us will forget. Hearing Daniel say at the end of almost every day “this is the best ride of my life” will certainly stick with me.”
— Kathy Hudson, Race Director
You’ll start out with lots of climbing, but you will travel shorter distances on those days, then roll through plateaus and passess while making your way to the next camp site. Having your meals prepared and gear transported really lightens your pack—mostly rain gear, hydration and nutrition for the day. There just can’t be a better way to race or ride through the rockies. You’ll surprise yourself with your abilities and we promise to push you while making the effort worth while.
June 28th-June 30th: Solo Epic Adventure – Got what it takes to go non-stop, or just be self-supportive and sleep when you want? Race the Solo Epic Adventure, ride straight-thru, and make it to Moab with a 48-hr. cutoff. Finish to a celebration party in Moab!
