In for test: Kona Satori

Kona keeps expanding its 29er lineup, and for 2012 they’re offering a huge range of models for riders who do everything from racing to hucking.

The Satori sits close to the "huck" end of the spectrum, as 130mm travel all-mountain/trail bike that can hang just about anywhere. Spec’d with a Fox RP2 shock with ProPedal, a RockShox Revelation fork with a thru-axle and a 142×12 rear end, it’s stiff and stout.

Other nice touches include short 17.3-inch chainstays, sealed cartridge bearings in the 4-bar linkage suspension, a tapered headtube and ISCG 05 tabs.

It comes with SRAM’s awesome 2X10 drivetrain, though I was a little bummed after the first ride to find the 39/26 chainrings were just a bit taller than I needed. SRAM is now offering it in a 36/22 combo, which would suit the nature of this bike a bit better. I’ll have to ask Kona about that….

Now for some product testing! (If it ever stops snowing or raining….)

Keep your eyes peeled for some first impressions online and a complete review in a future issue of Dirt Rag.
