Sea Otter Tech: Specialized Carve
Originally posted on April 20, 2011 at 11:50 amWe were snapping pictures of a prototype from another company when Ned Overend rolled by on this new model from Specialized. Dubbed ‘Carve,’ this will be a 29er-only model from Specialized. The Carve will have an M4 aluminum alloy frame, tapered head tube, threaded bottom bracket and a 27.2mm seatpost for added compliance.
Much like Specialized’s full-suspension Camber line, the Carve is targeted at budget-minded riders and will be positioned between the Stumpjumper and Rockhopper lines.
It is certainly a capable race bike—Overend finished 34th in men’s elite cross-country event on this bike, (schooling professional racers two decades his junior). The stock build will be much more approachable than the top-of-the-line spec on Overend’s bike.
There will be also singlespeed model featuring a pinch-bolt eccentric bottom bracket.
