The Bellingham Herald is reporting that the owner of more than 3,000 acres on Galbraith Mountain near Bellingham, Washington, is ending the recreation use agreement with a local mountain bike organization and will close the trails.
Polygon Financial, the owners of the property, had entered into a shared-use agreement with the WHIMPs Mountain Bike Coalition in May 2010, allowing access to the 44 miles of trails within the property. The WHIMPs group had a similar deal with the previous owners as well.
Logging operations have been in effect on the property off and on for some time, but the future of the land is uncertain. It was offered for sale to the city of Belingham for $20 million this spring.
Follow the WHIMPs Mountain Bike Coalition for updates.
