Ride the Divide on tour

That’s the tag line for Ride the Divide, a feature-length documentary about the 2008 Tour Divide race, a 2,700-mile haul along the Continental Divide. The race begins every summer in Banff, Alberta, to the New Mexico-Mexico border. There is no outside support allowed, there are no prizes and there is nearly 200,000-feet of climbing.
The film focuses on three of the participants: a 40-year-old family man trying to push himself to the limit; the first female to complete the race; and a four-time winner who expecting a new baby when he gets home.
Currently on tour with screenings in full-sized movie theaters, Ride the Divide made its way in Pittsburgh last week and naturally we rolled over to watch.
The filmmakers do a wonderful job capturing the majesty and the heartbreak that is the Tour Divide. You get to see the race up close in a way you never would just reading an article or flipping through a photo gallery. Ok, maybe some of the music was a little over-the-top, but we can let that slide.
