Tuba City, AZ. {for reals}

Current location?

What do you do for/with/to bicycles?

Ha! I like the "to" part. I build them from tubes and bits into functional bicycles. I lie to say either that "I rub metal together for a living" or "Alchemy, Baby! – steel into gold!" but for eight years now I have been a custom bicycle framebuilder.

What’s the best thing about your job?

Working for myself and creating lasting works of function. I love seeing a project throught fruitiion, and the small leaps of learning gained through repition.

What’s the toughest part of your job?

I work for an asshole.

What was the path that led you to work with bicycles?

I cannot remember life without them. At this contemplative stage in my life I often wonder about this very question as per the ramifications it has had upon my life. Bicycles changed my life drastically many times in my life.

What was your first bicycle?

It was very blurry but the first one I remember lucidly was a purple girl’s frame 20" from a garage sale.

What bike do you currently ride the most?

My one-off handcycle by Mike Ausberger.

Where is your favorite place to ride?

From the bar to your momma’s house! Ha!

What music goes through your head while you ride?

None, ever. I thing about building things. Really. That’s where it all comes from.

What are your interests aside from bicycles?

Kayaking, fishing, world travel, cooking, food, plants, reading.

If you weren’t working around bicycles, what do you think you’d be doing?

Artificial limbs, robotic joints, gardening, fishing in Baja, searching for Animal Chin?

Please share one of your favorite stories you’ve seen or been a part of while involved with the bicycle industry…

I met my wife at a bike shop.

Who would you choose for the next subject for the Bicycle Industry Insider Profile Series?

Paul Sadoff of Rock Lobster.

Why?

Because he is a true Badass.
